MachinaDeus exmachina

Machina (Deus exmachina, "god from the machine") are automatons created by the Humi to maintain the clusters of state-sized, climate-controlled domes strew across Tartarus's otherwise inhospitable landscape.

Machina are tireless in their endeavors, and it is thanks to them that intelligent life had the room to grow on Tartarus at all. They only ever fulfill the duties commanded of them long ago; their contemporary guardians have yet to decipher their programming. As their continued survival banks on them, the Machina are given the utmost possible care by Tartarans. Unlike the rest of dome-based machinery, Machina thankfully do not require fuel.

That being said, Machina are not eternal, and in having no knowledge on how to repair them or what actually does power them (as well as any of their other functions), the Machina are slowly "dying out". Those that have stopped functioning have been preserved in the hope of their eventual revival. Frakensteining new Machina from their inactive brethren has thus far not borne fruit.
