I received a referral reward, but there was no Item!
items
lorekeeper
Currently, only up to five referrals are eligible for referral rewards. Referrals can still be made after the fifth, but no Items will be granted.
Additionally, rewards are only distributed to the referrer once they and their referees are fully verified on our Lorekeeper.

Can I participate in an event after it has concluded?
No. Once an event has concluded, users may no longer participate in it. This includes failing to fully or correctly complete all tasks before the deadline; we will not make exceptions for event rules.
May I submit 3D models for a Prompt? What should I categorize it as?
prompts
You may submit 3D models for Prompts, so long as they abide their other criteria! For Misc. Prompt submissions, we would classify them as usual based on their finish.
3D renders featuring more than one iteration of the same model are only gradeable if their poses are distinct enough from one another. We do not accept differing perspectives on the same pose, for example.
My Starlyng has a Trait previously unreleased on the Masterlist! What should I do?
MYOs / redesigns
Submit a redesign request and specify as such in the comments! We're open to grandfathering in newly released Traits for Masterlist entries that already match their criteria. This is separate from adding a new Trait to a design that previously didn't have it. You don't need Items if your design already (and evidently) possesses a newly released Trait.
We are excepting the grandfathering in of the Pixie [R] Trait and other non-evident Traits like it, as there is typically no way to tell the size, etc. of a Starlyng prior to the Trait's release. If you wish to add newly released Traits like Pixie [R] to Starlyngs, they will require a regular redesign request including the appropriate Trait Item(s) if the Trait falls outside their original MYO Rarity.
This also does not apply to Early Access [EA] Traits, as they are not officially released.

Can you include multiple Starlyngs in an event submission? Can you include others' Starlyngs?
events
Depending on the event type, yes to both! Just make sure you get permission for others' Starlyngs if not using an NPC.
I won something from a raffle, but I don't see it in my Inventory and there's no apparent way to redeem it!
lorekeeper
Users do not need to redeem anything they win from raffles; Stafflyngs will add whatever was won to your account when we are available! This is manual on our end; we typically attend to things within a day.
If your Item was not granted in a timely manner (e.g., a week after winning the raffle), do let us know through the #suggestions channel's Typos & Other Mistakes thread in the Starlyng Discord server.
How do I become a Moderator?
discord
Moderation positions are opened on an as-needed basis, and will be announced in a on-site monthly newsletter or in the Discord server when relevant. All moderators must be 18 years of age or older.
Do not ask to become a Mod.
I can't find the channel or links I'm looking to use!
discord
Check our #directory in the Discord server.
Additionally, make sure to use the Browse Channels feature (below the banner between Events and Members) to make sure all channels relevant to you are visible. Discord does not enable their visibility nor notifications by default!
How do I gain access to the Discord server?
discord
In order to be let into the Discord server, you must make an introduction with the given template (a bot should message you, but if not, it's in the pinned message of the #introductions channel). You will be required to link a social media in your intro in order to have a Stafflyng verify you.
REMINDER: this community is 13+, and anyone under the age of 13 will be declined access to our server.
May traditional artwork be submitted as a Masterlist reference?
MYOs / redesigns
guidelines
Yes, so long as it fits our other submission guidelines, such as having a transparent background.
My submission was denied! How long do I have to resubmit it? Do I have to resubmit it again?
MYOs / redesigns
guidelines
If your submission was denied, a staff comment will be added with what needs to be corrected.
There is typically no time limit for resubmitting, excepting the ends of events. While you are not required to resubmit, your submission cannot be approved until you do. After it is resubmitted, you will need to wait for staff to review it again.
Questions regarding denied submissions may be addressed by replying to staff comments.
What are the design submission guidelines?
MYOs / redesigns
guidelines
lorekeeper
All submissions MUST abide the following criteria or they will be denied:
- ONLY ONE transparent fullbody image (NOT multiple in one image)
- No image larger than 2000x2000px
- Crop thumbnails so they only feature the character's face
- If uploading a custom thumbnail, it should be exactly 200x200px by size
- If submitting a Binary Starlyng, must include a custom thumbnail featuring both Starlyngs
- No additional drawing or writing obstructing the design outside of your signature or watermark
- Please crop image borders close to your Starlyng
- All Traits accurately listed
Once you are done, submit your request. If there are any issues, there will be a staff comment alongside your rejection/cancellation. You are required to disclose any media-based inspirations for your submission. (Public domain attributions like "Inspired by Norse mythology!" are not required.)
Can I claim items for other users, submit MYOs for them, etc?
MYOs / redesigns
discord
items
No, as this causes confusion. Users are always responsible for claiming and redeeming their own Items, as well as submitting their own forms.
Where and how do I buy Items?
items
lorekeeper
Items may be purchased in the "Shops" tab with various on-site currencies.
You will need to click on the Item you are planning to purchase, enter a quantity, select which bank you would like to pay from, and then click "Purchase".
Can I draw or write about other users' Starlyng species?
discord
prompts
Yes, as long as you have permission to do so. A character's permissions can be found in the upper right corner of their Masterlist entry; hover over or click each block to read the permissions.
All NPCs are eligible subjects for Prompts.
How do I redeem a Prompt?
lorekeeper
prompts
Please see the Prompts section in our Site Guide.
NOTE: If submitting a Misc. Prompt, you will submit it directly to the Gallery.
How do I earn Stardust? Where do I spend it?
prompts
You can earn Stardust by submitting Misc. Prompts and Art or Writing Prompts, or from participating in events. It may also be obtained by trading with other users, or by reselling Items.
Stardust can be spent at the Stardust Shop and MagiMart.
My Inventory or Bank has a mistake! How can I get this fixed?

Can I change my username? / How do I change my username?
lorekeeper
You may change your username once per 30 days by going to your Account Settings and scrolling down to the "Change Username" section. Please make sure your username follows our ToS; accounts with offensive or explicit usernames will be terminated.
What is a Masterlist?
MYOs / redesigns
The Masterlist is the complete list of every single official Starlyng, Oort, or Boötes, as well as their current owner. This is to track and verify their current owners, as well as store their value and resale permissions.
Currently, the Starlyng Masterlist is hosted on starlyng.space, which is where you are right now!
Can a Starlyng be featherless or 'hairless'? Can I make a Baldlyng?
MYOs / redesigns
species
Yes! Feathers can be of any length all over the body.
Are markings that are similar to noses allowed on Starlyngs?
MYOs / redesigns
species
Yes, but make sure it is clear that it is a marking, and not an actual nose on your Starlyng. It should not protrude from the face.
What is a CBC? What about other inspirations? Do I need to credit their sources? Are there restrictions?
MYOs / redesigns
CBC stands for "Character-Based Character". This describes any character design that is heavily based on an existing IP/source, such as a video game or anime character.
Inspirations for a design typically diverge significantly from the original source, making them not as recognizable.
These must be disclosed with your MYO submission to credit the source and make sure it is appropriate for the species. CBCs of real people (that are not you!) or their personas may not be made. Additionally, characters or IPs/sources that are considered to be bigoted or controversial may not be submitted.
All CBCs and designs heavily inspired by a source must have notable differences from the original, or they will not be accepted.
Can I update my Starlyng, Oort, or Boötes' design at a later time?
MYOs / redesigns
lorekeeper
Yes, but please note that these are approved on a case-by-case basis, and that we recommend you stay faithful to the original design. Additional redesign rules can be found in ToS #14.
While an Item is not needed to simply redesign your Starlyng, Oort, or Boötes, you will need to submit a redesign request by clicking "Update Design" on the sidebar of the character's profile. This will add it to the queue to be approved.
Can I make alternate designs for my Starlyng species? What restrictions are placed on these designs?
MYOs / redesigns
usage
Yes, you may create alternate forms (human, one-off, other original species, etc.) for your Starlyng species!
Please note that these cannot be split from the Starlyng species version and be subsequently sold or traded away separately.
Can someone else design my MYO?
MYOs / redesigns
usage
Only Official and Guest Artists of the species can sell official Starlyng, Oort, and Boötes designs (adoptables, OTAs, custom designs) for real money. However, normal users may also offer commissions or trades of USD, characters, or artwork to create unofficial custom designs for other users. The artist may not include their own Starlyng MYOs or Items in these custom commissions; they must be provided by the client.
These Starlyngs will not be considered official until they are approved and listed on the Masterlist. Please note that under no circumstance are normal users allowed to trade or sell a pre-designed, unofficial Starlyng; this will result in a ban.
Where do I go if I want confirmation on the Traits I am using before creating a design? What about general help or advice with designing my Starlyng species?
MYOs / redesigns
discord
items
You can ask Stafflyngs in the Discord server in the Submission Traiting Assistance thread or speak to fellow users in #design-help! The latter is for everyone, so may receive more feedback there.
How do I know what Traits are of a specific Rarity?
items
Through our Visual Trait Index page, all Traits are properly labeled with their corresponding Rarity! Traits can be mixed and matched as well, so long as the proper Items are utilized!
Can we post the MYO slots we own to Toyhou.se?
MYOs / redesigns
Yes, but please only upload Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Mythical MYOs to Toyhou.se and NOT your free Monthly Common MYO, as it is not an Item.
Please note that all Item transfers must be done through starlyng.space; an Item transferred exclusively through Toyhou.se without transferring it to the recipient on-site cannot be used.
How do I get an MYO approved?

Is it free to make an MYO for the species?
MYOs / redesigns
Users can create one free Common MYO per month. This means that any Trait above a Common Rarity will require Trait Items.
If a second Starlyng is desired to be created in a singular month, you must acquire a Common, Uncommon, Rare, or Mythical MYO slot through Stardust or other means (see FAQ question, "What is an MYO?" and Obtaining MYO and Trait Items). Stardust can be accrued through the completion of Prompts (also see: Galleries) in order to purchase MYO slots without using real money!
The Common MYO slot is not an Item and does not stack from month to month. Instead, it resets on the first of every month.
What are MYO Rarities?
MYOs / redesigns
MYO Rarities determine what Traits will not cost Items on your Starlyng MYO. If the Item is of a higher Rarity, Rarities beneath it can also be used freely!
For some examples, an Uncommon MYO permits both Common and Uncommon Traits to be freely used, whereas Rare Traits will still require the usage of Rare Trait Item(s)/having the necessary number of Rare Trait Item(s) in your Inventory. Rare MYOs will allow for free usage of all Traits up to Rare, and a Mythical MYO will grant access to all Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Mythical Traits.
What is an MYO?
MYOs / redesigns
An MYO (standing for "Make-Your-Own") is a slot that allows you to make your own Starlyng, Oort, or Boötes design!
For Starlyngs, an MYO denotes their Rarity and what Traits can be used without requiring Inventory add-ons when submitting a design. For example, Uncommon Starlyng MYOs allow for the free use of any and all Uncommon Traits and below. If an Uncommon MYO design has any Rare or Mythical Traits, they would require a Trait Item add-on. (Legendary Traits are single-use and always require add-ons).
For Oort and Böotes, they use the Sourcefeather and Sourceclock MYO Items respectively and are subject to somewhat different Traiting (see: Oort and Boötes) and Transformation rules (with all phases being accessible from the start via their Paid Item equivalents, Minion Pinions and Tick-Tocks).
MYOs can be obtained in the following ways:
- Earning Stardust (by completing Misc., Seasonal, Field Research, etc. Prompts, or by selling unneeded Items) and purchasing them from the Stardust Shop
- Supporting our Ko-fi and purchasing Items directly from the Ko-fi Shop, or using your accrued Vermyl to buy them from the Vermyllion Pavillion
- Events
- Trading with other users (can be Items or art/etc. Our Discord server also has a dedicated channel for trading!)
You can read about other commonly used terms on our User Guide. Further information can also be found both there and on our Site Guide.

What are Oort, Boötes, Bit, and Styx? Can I make or draw one for Prompts?
species
Oort, Boötes, Bits, and Styx are pet-like creatures in the Starlyng Universe. Oort and Boötes can be created using the Sourcefeather and Sourceclock, which can be purchased from the MagiMart. Read more about them and their mechanics on their respective species pages and on the User Guide. Oort and Boötes can be submitted as subjects for Misc. Prompts!
Bits and Styx, however, are regular fauna that can be owned by pets by anylyng without the use of Items. They cannot be submitted to the Masterlist, etc. and will be counted as Non-lyngs for Prompt submissions.
What is an Official/Guest Artist? How do I become one? / Do I need to reapply to become a Guest Artist?
guidelines
Official Artists (OA) are artists who have a permanent position in the species to make official adopts, customs, and designs for real money. Guest Artists (GA) are also permitted to make official adopts, customs, and designs for the species as desired for a three month term.
Openings for Guest Artist applications occur every three months for one week in our newsletters. Official Artists are elected to their position by Stafflyngs after meeting certain standards (and typically after holding the Guest Artist position for a full term).
We wipe Guest Artist applications after every term. Applicants who have applied during the past are welcome to reapply for each subsequent term!
Do you have an official base for Starlyngs?
MYOs / redesigns
How big are Starlyngs? I have lore questions!
species
Starlyngs average at about 2'6"/79 cm when quadrupedal, and 5'/152 cm when bipedal. They can be up to two times this size before treading into Mythical Starlyng territory, as Mythical Starlyngs can be substantially larger than average. Inversely, Starlyngs can be as small as 1'6"/45 cm (excepting Pixie [R] Starlyngs) when quadrupedal, or 3'/90 cm when bipedal.
More information of this nature can be viewed on their species page! If the answer you are seeking is not there, ask the staff in our Discord server.
