GullinkambiGallus gallus chthonii
Sapient Lifeforms
Gullinkambi or just Kambi (Gallus gallus chthonii, "chthonian rooster," in reference to their planet's namesake) are the third-most populous species on Tartarus and make up the majority of the middle class and remaining aristocracy. They evolved from Humi chickens. All Tartareans are ruled by the negligent king, Helhest, and the royal family of Sleipnir.
Regardless of status, the Kambi are notoriously prideful with strong standards. They enjoy challenge and adventure, and arguably express the greatest fascination in Machina and other remnants of the ancient civilization. The flames of competition are strongly stoked amongst the Kambi (with many joining noble-participating events just to triumph over them). This has lent itself to an ambitious and resourceful approach to life, as well as a confident, "attack things head-on" mentality.
Socially-speaking, the upper-crust Kambi are fairly torn between their support of the pecking order. Not all noble Kambi support the heirarchy; some work with and/or fund Umbla revolutionaries, provide shelter for outskirters, and deliberately block Bursti activities. That being said, among the upper class that do support the heirarchy, "support" may not be entirely the right word: rather than do away with their status, royalist Kambi instead seek to overthrow the Bursti. They are well aware that the title "noble" does not hold equal power.
Middle-class and lower Kambi are far, far less on the fence about their opposition, save for those still blindly loyal to the royal family.
By their most beloathed, the Gullinbursti, the Kambi are called Fjalar instead; the Bursti do not believe them to be worthy of their shared "golden" name. In turn, the Kambi either call them Hogwash or other, far less savory terms. Of the worst of noble Kambi, one can probably assume the barbs they hear—especially the roosters. ("Cow, pig," etc. are usually insults in themselves.)
Kambi look like all manner of chicken, including their non-domesticated ancestor. They are omnivorous.
