Norðri
City inside Everlight
Norðri (North City) is the northernmost city of Dwarven society on Hyperborea and one of five major Dwarven cities. It is the northernmost Dwarven city located within the Everlight. The other three cardinal cities, Austri (East City), Vestri (West City), and Suðri (South City), are an equidistance away from the central Dwarven capital, Hjálm (Helm), in their respective directions. (All five cities are named after an Old Norse kenning for the sky.)
The North City is the newest of the five cities, having been built from the ground up with Magitechnology. It was designed to make use of the ocean surrounding it; besides being almost entirely powered by water (with even Magitech utilizing water-based Runes), the very foundation of the city itself is able to rise and lower per the changing sea level. The canals that line Norðri are its main (non-Magitech) source of transport, with those leading to the docks always busy due to the North City's booming seafood industry. The beautiful, mostly-white architecture of the city has earned it the nickname The Pearl. Norðri is also well-known for its investment in the arts, leaving it with no shortage of entertainment, fledgling creators, and tourists.
The North City stands at the forefront of all things space, making it a prime target of the Fey. The Fey feel threatened; the North City has begun to launch more and more satellites and other craft into orbit—often a struggle for the Fey to combat—and the recent invention of skyships means the Dwarves can fight them on equal footing. Parts of the city are damaged because of Fey scrutiny, yet the Dwarves are far from hindered. If anything, they revel in stealing their attention away from other areas of the planet, not once having forgotten what they did to Suðri.
At the highest point of Norðri resides the Dwarven telescope Bifröst; the same building hosts the Magitech shields invisibly surrounding the city.
