The All is One (Hen to Pan or the One) is a Universal Covenant committed to unraveling the intricacies of the Universe, Ouroboros, and the Omnicosm as a whole. Its central studies are Allchemy (the Universal Science) and Sourcery (the Universal Magic). All those who belong to the One are referred to as Philosophers. The All is One is overseen by three Headmasters: Caro and Lynn, who preside over the School of Allchemy and occupy the Third Seat of the Order, and Cynosure, who presides over the School of Sourcery and occupies the and Sixth Seat of the Order.
The One champions the idea of "knowledge for the sake of knowledge", although Philosophers can vary in the strictness of their accordance. This philosophy has fostered a pervasive academic mindset and environment, with most students at the very least quite serious about their own individual pursuits. The devoted nature of Philosophers has lead to a healthy, scholastic rivalry between them, specifically amidst those focused more in Sourcery, or in Allchemy, though their divide is hardly large, especially for aspiring Rubedo. Hen to Pan is altogether highly accepting of new members, and equally as accomodating to its diverse population of learners. Literally and figuratively, its doors are always open!
The base of the All is One divided between three flying steampunk ships known as the Rebis. The first, biggest, and main ship is known as the Magnum Opus; its smaller sister ships are the Chrysopoeia (home to the School of Allchemy) and Splendor Solis (home to the School of Sourcery). All three travel along the Primum Mobile, although the former remains static and the latter two sometimes leave the Firmament for various explorations.
- RUBEDO: Advanced Philosophers who have extensive experience as both Sourcerers and Allchemists, the combination of which they call All Things. Rubedo, or Luminaries, have such a thorough understanding of All Things that they are able to unravel and break down the very essence of an existence and recreate it (this power is called Entelechy). For example, Luminaries could germinate a seed long since extinct, or form an apple from ashes. The abuse of this ability is, of course, strictly prohibited--not that the Cosmic Law (which enlightened Rubedo are very familiar with, having taken the Oath) would allow for it, anyway.
Due to their expertise and enlightenment, the Order routinely relies on Rubedo for the procurement of Upper Choir armor, tools, etc. as well as judging for the Courts of Serenity; they may provide for Master Reapers as well. Luminaries typically continue their studies for life and join other Covenants during their pursuit of knowledge. A common way to identify Rubedo is the donning of a Philosopher's Stone.
- CITRINITAS: Citrinitas or Sourcerers are Albedo who have chosen to commit to the study of Sourcery. Expert Sourcerers are called Lodestars. To become a Sourcerer and learn about unreality, they must have a firm grasp "reality". Ergo, all Sourcerers were Albedos first, but they did not need to become Polestars to rank up to Citrinitas; the evaluation can, in fact, be taken at any level and is usually administered by a Lodestar. That being said, many Sourcerers "double major" as Albedo so that they may one day become Luminaries, although equally as many choose to focus only on Sourcery. Skilled Sourcerers are able to perform varying magics harnessing the Source.
- ALBEDO: Albedo or Allchemists are Nigredo who have chosen to dedicate themselves to the study of Allchemy. Expert Allchemists are called Polestars. Albedo place a heavy emphasis on the "reality" and picking apart the tangible Universe. The Universal Science emcompasses all other possible sciences, and as such, those that populate this rank are extremely varied in their fields. However, all Albedo share in the desire to discover the "the truth of All Things," which entails a shared study of the "fundamental building blocks of the Universe". At this level, Albedo will likely gain their first inklings of the Omnicosm.
Albedo are also trained in alchemizing the special items and tools utilized by other Covenants and the Archivists' Association (paper, quills, ink; see also: see Threads and Needles, Thimbles, Azoth). Albedo may also choose to become Shepherds at the Sanctuary or stay as they are to teach Nigredo.
- NIGREDO: Emergent Philosophers who are, most simply, at the point in their student career where they must take all of their foundational classes first before anything actually having to do with their majors. Nigredo can decide to go on and become part of the Cauda Pavonis, the crew that flies and maintains the Rebis (see: Pioneer's Permit).Many Nigredo were Sectators before enrolling in the One and some may choose to return to the Sanctuary as Shepherds. Senior Nigredo gain a majority of their practical experience during student holidays in which the Chrysopoeia and Splendor Solis disconnect from the Magnum Opus to venture into space.
