"Guided by the light of the stars."
The Order of the Origin (Ordo Originis or simply the Order) is headed by the remaining seven Firstborns, otherwise known as the Seat of Seven or the Synod (from the astronomical "synodic"). Alongside the Way of the Darkscythe, it was the earliest Universal Covenant to be established. While the majority of its members are scholars and regular followers of the Seven, upper echelons (dubbed "Choirs") are the dedicated defenders and menders of the Universe and Sourcering. Whereas the Preservation primarily focuses on "in-Universe" protection, the Order priorities fending against Extrauniversal Beings.
Despite its prevalance, and due to the nature of its higher ranking operations, the Ordo Originis is significantly more covert than other Factions. The barriers to entry between the Lower and Upper Choirs are somewhat chasmic, with rigorous and intensive training needed to ascend to the topmost ranks. Sectators may only have a certain, public-facing idea of what each rank does until their studies advance to the point where they're able to be enlightened by their Shepherds. Even amongst Shepherds, not all are qualified to guide Sectators on the path to becoming part of the Upper Choir, with many of the certified population having been tutored by a Firstborn, relevant Upper Choir member, or another, already qualified Shepherd.
That being said, the Order is very welcoming of Starlyngs wishing to join it, or even just visitors to its halls, for whatever reason they may be there. They bear a highly collaborative relationship with most other Factions due to their majority having Firstborn founders, but are specially involved with the other Covenants and Guilds, most notably the Path of Preservation and Archivists' Association (due to similar ideals and duties).
The Elysian base of the Order is called the Sanctuary, its vast and sprawling library the Sanctum, and its various courts the Serenity (aka the Courts or the Equilibrium).
The Choirs of the First are as follows:
UPPER CHOIR
- SALVATORES: the highest choir; the elite vanguard of the Order and the foremost "swords" of the Universe; largely active on the battlefield (see: EUB) and in command of parties (Sidus or Sidera, or Constellation[s]) of varying size depending on their merits; often under the direct wing of a Firstborn (ex. Salvatore of the Second, etc.). The leader of the Salvatores is known as the Sidereal Salvatore.
- SENTINELS: the second highest choir; the elite rearguard of the Order and foremost "shields" of the Universe; as equally on the battlefield as they are posted as stationary wards (static Sentinels, as a whole, are called the Steadfast) near Sourcegates/weakened boundaries; often under the direct wing of a Salvatore. Sentinels also maintain the Nexus. The leader of the Sentinels is known as the Sidereal Sentinal.
- SUSTAINERS: the third highest choir; the foremost healers of the Order and dedicated menders of the Sourcering; if they are not combat medics for the Upper Choir, Sustainers are reinforcing Sourcegates/weakened boundaries (see: Azoth); many Sustainers are also posted at the Order itself or throughout the Universe as regular doctors of ranging specialties. The leader of the Sustainers is known as the Sidereal Sustainer. Collectively, the Sidereal leaders are called the Syzygy.
LOWER CHOIR
- SECTATORS: the lowermost choir; populated by initiates, scholars, and (most of all) by commonfolk devotees not looking to advance in rank; the majority of Sectators are drawn to the Order for the mystery of its founders and the knowledge contained within its halls; scholarly Sectators can study and graduate from the Order like a university (as the credence of the Firstborns is to guide and to teach, a significant amont of scholarly Sectators go on to become teachers themselves).
There is no "leader of the Sectators," but professors are addressed as Shepherds, the overall academic faculty is the Symposium, and the devout refer to their collective as the Society. Shepherds can be learned in studies outside the Sanctuary; many of them were once Nigredo and Albedo, for example. These learned Shepherds, particularly those of a concurrent Rubedo status, are often trained to preside over the Courts of Serenity.
NOTABLY, Starlyngs are generally not aware of other universes (the Omnicosm), nor are they aware of inbound abominations, that the Order defends against them, and other related goings-on. Even within the Order, the duties pertaining to the Upper Choir (outside of Sustainers that become regular doctors) are classified information. To the general public, the Upper Choir is seen as the "Order version" of the Preservation instead, and thus there is an open and longstanding relationship between both Covenants. (Although, internally, they often butt heads.)
The Order also associates with superiors of the All is One convenant for the procurement of Upper Choir needs (weapons, armor, etc.; see Threads and Needles, Thimbles, Azoth), as well as the special media (paper, ink, etc.) used by Archivists to fill the Sanctum and Emphemeris libraries and by (chiefly academic) Sectators. Covertly, the Upper Choir of the Order works with Spectra from the Way of the Darkscythe to dispose of EUB, purifying the remains of Distorted Starlyngs, and other matters pertaining to unlife.
