Firstborns

Firstborns are the first and only direct sentient creations of Ouroboros, and were thus witnesses to the brief period befores its consciounsess left the Universe (see: Husk). The majority of (known) Firstborns have long since passed away. While still largely enigmatic, they hold a legendary, nigh mythical status to the majority of Starlyngs.

During a time before Factions and in a Universe less populated by Starlyngs, all Firstborns belonged to an assembly known as the Orchestra. The Orchestra eventually gave way to the Universal Covenants, and subsequently, Guilds and Troupes. Presently, the seven (eight) surviving Firstborns, titled the Seat of Seven or Synod, lead the Order of the Origin.

Firstborn positions within the Order are determined by their age. When Firstborns pass away, they are honored with the title "St.," which stands for "Seat".

CREATION

During the earliest moments of the Universe, Ouroboros fashioned the Firstborns to fulfill a "prime directive" that they have never once forgotten: exist as observants and overseers of spacetime, so as to one day join its Limitless Library. In essence, the Firstborns are living historical records with the express purpose of passively chronicling the Universe. Their Oath of the Origin directly scripts their objective in the Universe and determines their longevity.

However, not all Firstborns are destined to live until heat death, nor are they beholden to: by willingly breaking their Oath, they may pass on to Ouroboros at any point. Unlike regular undertakers of the Oath, Firstborns do not suffer Quietus for forcing their conclusion. In fact, the majority of primeval Firstborns deliberately broke their Oaths so as to birth the original stars, galaxies, and Starlyngs, thus "kickstarting" the Universe's inbuilt processes. (This event is known as the Overture.)

(The Universe was created to naturally give rise to and conduct these processes itself, but Firstborn deaths are always, in some way, pivotal events, especially where the future is concerned. For example, though she died much later, Linnunrata's death eventually gave rise to the Humi. Moirorn, another example, is destined for an unknown role at the end of time, and thus won't die until then.)

ABILITIES

Alongside the Oath of the Origin, Firstborns are also inate teachers and guides with the collective ambition of passing on their wisdom. The memory of a Firstborn is as crystal clear as it is boundless in capacity; as such, they are veritable fonts of information with many vying pupils. More nuanced abilities can vary between them, but as Firstborns are functionally "shards" of Ouroboros, they all fractionally possess its powers of spacetime and can commune with both the Husk and each other from anywhere in the Universe. Due to their dominion, they are able to travel with utmost efficiency (nigh teleporting) and pinpoint cosmic locations and events, such as the birth of a new star (this means they can also to hide their own positions from each other and "turn off" communications).

Likewise, Firstborns are powerful oracles that can wholly parse the Score of Spacetime (exceptionally, but under restrictions of the Oath, they can even rewrite it). That being said, it should be noted that there is no such thing as a set fate for anything or anyone in the Omnicosm. Even the omniscient Ouroboros is unable to determine any one definite future, which is only made worse by its lack of true presence in the Universe; the Firstborns are simply more adept at "hearing" the "loudest instruments" or "plucking the strings" of fate. As they are all anamolous, Firstborns cannot read their own fates.

Additionally, all Firstborns can perform (to differing degrees) any other role in the Universe, since they contain the same potential. This means that they are all technically Reapers and can create Trait Tomes—but this doesn't mean that they all want to or do, nor are they equally skilled at doing it. An experienced Starlyng can absolutely outclass them in any one field. Along this vein, all Firstborns are attuned to All Things, although, again, their aptitude varies.

Firstborns, like Reapers, can also freely pass through Sourcegates and the Sourcering, although traversal can range from feeling like wading through water (e.g. the Tail Universe, parallel universes) to receiving immense gravitational pressure (e.g. Simulacrum, other universes); most do not wish to endure the sensations for long periods of time.

APPEARANCE

The appearances of Firstborns are diverse and nonrestrictive. Owing to their creator, Firstborns are adept shapeshifters and fluid in nature, not often lingering in any one form or sticking to any one fashion, etc. The majority of Firstborns, when appearing publically as the Seat of Seven, keep a consistent elevated form. This form is the next closest thing to their most primal visage, exemplifying  their ancestral, Ouroboros-esque features.

Firstborns are often bigger than the average Starlyng, even if they choose to hide themselves as much as possible and go incognito; their elevated forms are, of course, even larger, although the extent to which is—like everything else—entirely up to them.
