Glossary
This page contains quick definitions of commonly used terms. If a term has a longer lore page, it will be linked via the name of the term
Threads and Needles
Term used for the tools created by the All is One that members of the Preservation and the Order used to repair Sourcegates and spacetime anomalies (relating to the idea of spacetime being like a "blanket," i.e. the "fabric of spacetime").
Threnody
Also known as a Requiem, a Threnody is a series of Dirges.
Tome
If enough Stardust is collected, the fragmented memories found within can be decoded by Archivists, who will then convert them into a physical medium for safekeeping. Upon reading these (Stardust Ink) Tomes, Starlyngs can gain access to Traits they would otherwise not know about and change their physical forms accordingly.
Trifecta
Otherwise known as the Triple Threat, the Trifecta is the collective name for the Cirque du Cosmos, Masked by Moonlight, and Symphony of the Stars Troupes.
Troupe
Guilds are intergalactic Factions comprised of likeminded individuals with likeminded goals. Unlike Covenants and Troupes, Guilds are often multiple, smaller collectives that have formed a (looser) alliance throughout the stars.
Although there is usually no "one" leader of any Guild as a whole (the Fleet and Wanderers have active, leading founders, but there are multiple other leaders that work alongside them; the Fellowship is wholly community-lead), within their own collectives, they generally do have authorities and hierarchies. It is also very common for Guildmembers to fly solo and remain only loosely associated with their Guild.
Guilds are very rarely involved in cosmic happenings (once again excepting the Fleet) and instead specialize in a trade or something like one; by this definition, some aspects of a Covenant (i.e. certain ranks, such as Heralds) may function more akin to Guilds.
Ultrawave
Communications technology developed by the ISS and utilized by the Ansible to send and receive near-perfect transmissions across the cosmos. Primarily used to broadcast news, weather, etc., as well as receive and report on the status of Adventurers' Guild requests. Functions on a wavelength very similar to Telepathese.
Universal Binomial Nomenclature
The binomial nomenclature used by Starlyngs for flora and fauna across the Universe. The first name refers to the Universal Generic Name, whereas the second name refers to the Universal Specific Name.
Universal Binomial Nomenclature may also be referred to as binomens, binominal names, or a scientific name, among other epithets.
Universal Broadcaster
An occupational title most famously held by Ansible, but is applicable to any Starlyng in the business of broadcasting news, weather, and other such information throughout the Universe via the Ansible of the ISS.
Our website reports weather from Tellus-like Arcadia, with descriptions being helpfully (or unhelpfully) provided by Ansible. Said Starlyng is also the primary writer of monthly newsletters.
Veil
Highly dangerous classifications of Styx (see: EUB) are known as Veil (from the phrase "beyond the veil"). Not only is the size of Veil significant (they can be as large as a small planet, for example), they are also substantially more intelligent, malicious, and deliberately ruinous than their fellow Styx.
