Unlike February, there's not as March to talk about, so here's to hoping for a newsletter that's "in like a lion, and out like a lamb"!

Surprise, surprise--we just couldn't keep our hands off the boring pages! Aside from some minor improvements to readability, formatting, verbage across the board, here's what changed individually:

Honestly, we're always giving these pages some attention. I wish someone tended to me this thoroughly.

system overload: new prompts & CRITERIA, OBSERVATION JOURNAL, writing criteria, server boost rewards

NEW PROMPTS & criteria: FLORA FIELD RESEARCH, VOIDING/UNVOIDING, PIXEL BANISHMENT

We thought, "Oh, we really should add that," and thus two new Prompts were (quite grotesquely) born: a Flora Field Research Prompt (Gallery) and a Voiding/Unvoiding Prompt (see: Site Guide). Further information can be read about on their respective Prompt pages. Anyone else heartlessly banishing their Starlyngs to the depthless abyss? 

Oort and Boötes now have their own criteria rewards separate from the Starlyng criteria rewards. This means they can now be submitted by themselves (must be mostly a fullbody at minimum) OR alongside other pets, Non-lyngs, and and Starlyngs. In the lattermost case, just remember to include them when submitting criteria rewards for Misc. Prompts! 

Lastly, due to its subjectivity, we've removed Pixel grading criteria from the Misc. Art Prompts. You can, of course, still submit pixelated artwork; it simply falls under the Sketch/Lined/Lineless umbrella now.

(There is NO active Festive Prompts for the month of March.)

new observation journal

Moving on, the Observation Journal reward for completing a Trait Observation (Gallery) Prompt also received a makeover! It now allows for the Rarity of a preexisting Starlyng to be changed to Rare during a design update, thus granting it access to all Traits Rare and below. (Formerly, this Item granted the application of up to 5 Uncommon or Rare Traits).

NEW WRITING CRITERIA

We reworked the way we evaluate and reward both written Prompts! Further information and requirements can be found in the descriptions of the Misc., Seasonal (Gallery), and Trait Observation (Gallery) Prompts.

The following summaries were detailed in a Discord announcement earlier this month, but to reiterate:

WRITTEN MISC. PROMPTS
  • There is now a minimum requirement of 200 words (proofread: 35 SD; not proofread: 25 SD).

  • For every 50 words after 200 (rounded down), Authorlyngs will receive a flat rate of 6.25 Stardust for unproofread works (totals will still round up, like all Prompts).

  • There is now a 1.4x multiplier for proofread works.

  • Other multipliers, such as the Gift and Festive bonuses, remain intact.
WRITTEN SEASONAL PROMPTS
  • There is now a minimum requirement of 800 words (formerly 3000).

WRITTEN TRAIT OBSERVATION PROMPTS:

  • There is now a minimum requirement of 1000 words (formerly 3000).

NEW SERVER BOOST REWARDS

You know the drill: new month, new server rewards! However, March'll have a little spin on the usual formula. Going forward, Server Boost rewards will now be Vermyl, which will touched more upon in its respective newsletter section.

Vermyl can be gained through the Server Boost rewards Prompt twice a month. That is, so long as you verifiably boost the server twice in one month, you can redeem the Prompt just as many times per month! We'll know if you lie, by the way. Don't be naughty.

EVENT HORIZON: RELAUNCH EVENT, NEW SEASONAL PROMPT

The Relaunch Event detailed in the former newsletter has concluded, and we're beyond thrilled at the turnout! Floored, even! In fact, we're so floored we may as well be in the house like carpet! (And, floor the record, the relaunch rewards will remain, so you're more than welcome to continue to invite your friends!)

Truly, to members both new and old, we extend our heartfelt thanks. We hope you continue to shine like stars across the Starlyng Night Sky! We have so much more in store for you all. 

Also, since it's now March, and since we follow the meteorological calendar, the Seasonal Prompt has shifted from Winter/Summer to Spring/Autumn. Likewise, the site's season is now Spring and will exhibit related weather. Can't wait to see what ideas spring to your minds!

There is no active Festive Prompt for the month of March.

RAFFLE SOME FEATHERS

The Relaunch Raffles detailed in the former newsletter have concluded. We have checked to see if the winners followed all directions and will transfer the two Starlyngs to their new owners! If a winner did not follow the directions, the results were rerolled (and proof was retained).

Starting today, we will also be raffling the remaining Valentine's Day Gachalyng as per Maheylis's very gracious wishes as well as Sagittariuslyng by palm! These raffles will end on March 8. Click on the images below to enter!

APRIL STARDUST ADOPTABLES LOTTERY

Last month, we introduced Stardust-based adoptables to the system. You should see March's adorable, spring-based designs on the Sales page! Those interested in these designs can purchase them for 500 Stardust each.

Continuing the trend, we'll be hosting our April Stardust Adoptable lottery.

  • THREE users be chosen as winners.

  • Winners will be asked to EACH create ONE "April Showers"-themed Starlyng. ("April Showers" can include things like sunshowers, rainbows, so on.)

  • These adoptables can use any Common, Uncommon, and Rare Traits. The Raindrop [L] Trait is also available for use.

  • These Starlyngs will be classified as Rare MYOs, and so said Traits can be used freely without the need for Items.

  • These adoptables will be sold for 500 Stardust each. 

The deadline for these designs will be at the end of the month, with designers being picked one week from today (March 8). Failure to complete a design will disqualify users from participating in the future.

UNIVERSE EXPANSION: NEW TRAITS, "RARITY"

NEW TRAITS: ELF [C], PIXIE [R], PAWS [M]

Three new Traits have been released: Elf [C], Pixie [R], and Paws [M]! Elf applies to ears, while the latter two apply to the body. Be sure to check them out by clicking said links or the images below!

Yes, we did mention Elf [C] earlier this month via our Discord announcements, but it never hurts to note a new Trait twice! Actually, here it is thrice: We added the Elf [C] Trait. Elf [C] not only applies to "standard elven" ears, but also ears positioned around the halfway point of the head. Ergo, it can be used concurrently with other ear Traits to denote their placement! (We had some trouble with that grey area, hence the rush on putting it out.)

If you happened to have missed that announcement and feel that your Starlyng's ears may benefit from the Elf [C] Trait, feel free to submit a redesign! The Trait's Common, so there's no need for Items. 

We also reformatted many Traits and expanded on some of their descriptions (including Elf [C]; Droop [C], Aquatic [R], and Mutated [R] are other notable ones).

NEW "RARITY": EARLY ACCESS TRAITS

Noseylyngs (or, erm, I guess noseless-lyngs?) may have also noticed the introduction of Early Access [EA] Traits!

Early Access Traits are Traits that are unavailable for general use until they are officially released. They are, in other words, for your viewing pleasure!  [EA] Trait Rarity will be corrected upon release.

Early Access Traits are currently only usable by purchasing an Early Access Ticket through our Starlyngs Ko-fi Shop, which can be read more about in its respective newsletter section.

What's that jingling in our coin pouches? Oh, you mean... this?

Why, we're so glad you asked! That, my Dearlyng, is our newest currency: Vermyl!

Vermyl (MYL; from "vermeil") is a premium currency obtained through purchases or memberships at the Starlyngs Ko-fi Shop, or through Server Boost Rewards, and can be spent at the Vermyllion Pavilion! Unlike other currently usable currencies, Vermyl may NOT be directly transferred from user to user. More information on the Starlyngs Ko-Fi Shop can be read about in its respective newsletter section.

I can see you're curious about the Vermyllion Pavilion... Well, you wouldn't believe what's in the next section! (Not even if I told you.)

NEW SHOP: VERMYLLION PAVILION

In addition to revamping our litany of shop descriptions to have a little more pizzazz, we're also added an entirely new shop: the Vermyllion Pavilion! 

The Vermyllion Pavilion is devoted to the new currency, Vermyl (MYL). Its wares include the paid equivalents of Starlyng/Pet MYO (Make-Your-Own) Items, Trait Items, Transformation Items, and yet another new face, Stardust Vials! Stardust Vials can be resold to earn 10 Stardust each. 

The value of Items sold by the Vermyllion Pavilion is not balanced with the value of Stardust; we suggest only patronizing it and the Ko-fi Shop if you would like to support the development of this species.

NEW SHOP: STARLYNGS KO-FI

We've set up a Ko-fi, the link to which can be found in a few places, such as at the bottom of our Lorekeeper website, in the description of the Vermyllion Pavilion, and in our Discord server #directory! 

The Starlyngs Ko-fi Shop serves as an easy way for users to help sustain the maintenance and development of the Starlyng ARPG. Memberships can be redeemed for our premium currency, Vermyl, and then exchanged for Items through the Vermyllion Pavilion. One-time payments will be considered donations! Among the selection of illustrious Ko-Fi Items to purchase is the very special Early Access Ticket, which will allow for the usage of Early Access Traits! GUIDES GALORE: SITE GUIDE, USER GUIDE

The contents of the January Newsletter that weren't already on the Site Guide have now been added to it. The Site Guide has been refurbished to allow for a better user experience--namely, the ability to navigate and locate content on the page better--and expanded to detail future site functions involving the new foraging, crafting, and dailies features. The former improvement includes the addition of: a table of contents, a series of other jump lyngks, and the ability to CTRL+F the page for specific words. Mostly minor tweaks, but hopefully helpful ones nonetheless! 

As for the User Guide, it contains information on: MYOs and their creation, Oort and Boötes mechanics, factions, why you should engage the foraging, crafting, dailies, and overall ARPG systems, and how the aforestarted systems work overall. It is currently a work in progress; we will be working to finish it as soon as possible!

RELAUNCH EVENT: REFERRAL REWARDS

All Userlyngs are eligible to collect up to 5 additional referral rewards by inviting others to our Lorekeeper. The rewards are as following:

We suggest including your on-site username in your bulletin post, alongside a request for others to include said username in the Referred By field when registering. Feel free to directly contact or tag friends to refer them!

NOTICE REGARDING REFERRAL REWARDS

Our referral extension is not working as intended and is skipping rewards for some users. We are in the process of reworking this. Newcomers need to make sure that they are fully verified so that the user that referred them can collect their reward. For users who received "empty" referral rewards back in January when they did not exist, they will not be given retroactively; there will be no compensation unless you submit a claim for them. 

Users wishing to submit a claim can either submit a blank claim if they don't know how many people they referred BEFORE February, or they can input which referral rewards they should have gotten if they do know.

VALENTINE'S DAY GACHA

We're planning an upcoming Valentine's Day gacha event! The pool will comprise of $40 chibi designs themed around expressions and symbols of love, designed by our Official, Guest, and Event Artists. Preclaims will be available starting on February 13th, with all designs being revealed on the 14th. Stay tuned for more details!

VALENTINE'S DAY PROMPT

With the arrival of the loviest-of-doviest months comes the Valentine's Day Prompt bonus! When applied to any Misc. Prompt submission throughout the month of February, it will apply a 1.2 Stardust bonus. Depict or write about Starlyngs enjoying the company of their friends or partners, or giving gifts to one another!

"Due to the immense distances that often separate Starlyngs, they can get a little lonely sometimes! Thus, many Starlyngs enjoy gifting sweets or other small gifts to symbolize their platonic or romantic love for each other and try to form tight bonds where possible."

STARDUST ADOPTABLE LOTTERIES

We are introducing Stardust-based adoptables to the system! These adoptables will be created by Userlyngs randomly chosen via lotteries (using the raffle system) and sold for a base rate of 500 Stardust (with the potential to scale higher based on Rarity for special occasions). Stardust earned this way will go directly to the designer of the adoptable. There will be monthly themes for creators to base their designs on, so look forward to the array of future designs!

Expansion: New Rarity, Traits, Alternate Form, Pets

Guess what? It's time to roll out the red carpet for a new Rarity... Legendary! 

Legendary Traits differ from other Traits in that they can only be obtained from special, one-use Items. Unlike other Trait Items which can be used to apply any Trait of that Rarity, Legendary Trait Items are only usable per relevant Trait. They cannot be used for every Trait of the Legendary Rarity. For example, if you have the Phantasmagoria Item, it can only be used for the Distortion [L] Trait.

Of course, we wouldn't just add a new Rarity without some Traits to fill it in! There are six new Legendary Traits all true warriors should strive for:

ALTERNATE FORM: EARTHBOUND SOULS

We're also introducing a new alternate form for Starlyngs, Earthbound Souls. Colloquially known as Earthlyngs or Humanlyngs, Earthbound Souls are Distorted Starlyngs that have had their consciousness separately reformed in the Earthlyng Universe (Universe Pair B+/B-) with the original's memories intact. Thus, there are now two separate consciousnesses of the same Starlyng in both the prime Starlyng Universe and the Earthlyng Universe. Due to this, Earthbound Souls erroneously presume that they have been teleported and are generally unaware of their dual consciousnesses. Their Distortions cause them to take on new humanoid characteristics.

Earthbound Souls can be obtained by using x1 Earthbound Soul [L] (250 SD) on an existing Starlyng during a design update.

PET SPECIES: OORT AND BOöTES

After teasing their existence for many moons, it's finally time for the official release of our pet species, Oort and Boötes! (And don't you DARE say "Oorts"! The plural of Oort is also Oort!)

Oort (plural Oort) are typically born from either the shed "feathers" of Ouroboros (Sourcefeathers) or deceased Starlyngs, Oort are semi-intelligent, fragmented manifestations of star energy and memories. Boötes (sing. Boötes), on the other hand, are the ultimate eventuation of an Oort's life cycle (developing from fragments called Sourceclocks), though they do not always spawn when an Oort burns out. Like their predecessors, Boötes are semi-intelligent, fragmented manifestations of star energy and memories--however, they are even further degraded than Oort and their intelligence is more juvenile. Once an Oort or Boötes forms a connection with a Starlyng, they bond for life and never stray far from their companion!

Oort have four (technically five) developmental phases, while Boötes only have three. You can read more about them on their individual species pages and in the User Guide, but here is a summary:

OORT
  1. PHASE 1, INFANT: Attained via Sourcefeather. Stays in this phase for one month of real time. 

  2. PHASE 2, CHILD: Evolves into a Child after one month of real time in Phase 1, or with a use of Presto.

  3. PHASE 3, ADULT Evolves into an Adult after six months of real time in Phase 2, or with a use of Abracadabra.

  4. PHASE 4, ELDER: Evolves into an Elder after one year of real time in Phase 3, or with a use of Alazakam.

  5. PHASE 5: BOÖTES (PHASE 1: SPORE): Can evolve after two years of real time in Phase 4, or with a use of Hocus Pocus. Boötes can also be reverted back to an Phase 1 Oort by using this Item. 

BOÖTES
  1. PHASE 1, SPORE: Attained via Sourceclock. Stays in this phase for one month of real time. 

  2. PHASE 2, GERM: Evolves into a Germ after one month of real time in Phase 1, or with a use of Presto.

  3. PHASE 3, FUN GUY: Evolves into a Fun Guy after six months of real time in Phase 2, or with a use of Abracadabra.

Oort and Boötes can both be made by attaining their corresponding MYO Items, Sourcefeather and Sourceclock, from the MagiMart, Item Sales, this month's Server Boost rewards, referral rewards, future events, and other secret means. All Oort and Boötes start at Phase 1; for Oort and Bootes to advance to other phases, Userlyngs must wait until the above times have passed or by using quickening Items (which can also gained from said sources). Again, it is highly recommended that all interested Userlyngs read about the mechanics of Oort and Boötes through their individual species pages and the User Guide. All phases of an Oort or Boötes can be gained by purchasing a Minion Pinion or Tick-Tock with USD through PayPal (details on the Item Sales page). 

Oh, and one more thing: Oort and Boötes can be submitted as subjects for Misc. Prompts!

Obtaining New Items: MATERIALS, SYLVER SHOP

If you're looking for how attain the above Items, then look no further! Aside from purchasing them through their usual avenue, they can also be crafted using Material Items found (with varying chances) from foraging expeditions and through dailies! Userlyngs can learn more about foraging and crafting by reading the Site Guide and the User Guide (referenced in the newsletter section: Guides Galore: Site Guide, User Guide).

For the first day Users engage the foraging expedition feature, there will be only have 1 Morale to expend. Exploring locations that take more than 1 Morale will produce an error. Users will have 3 Morale for every day after. This will reset every day at midnight PST.

Yes, that's right, we now have real-money Item Sales for Rare MYOs, Earthbound Souls, Minion Pinions, and Tick-Tocks! Rare MYOs aren't new and Earthbound Souls were touched on explained prior, so you may be wondering what Minion Pinions and Tick-Tocks are--which we'll happily tell you! Unlike regular Sourcefeathers and Sourceclocks which only grant you Phase 1 Oort and Boötes, Minion Pinions and Tick-Tocks grant access to all Phases of their respective pet! Userlyngs who purchase these Items needn't wait to evolve their pets nor purchase any quickening Items.

SERVER BOOST REWARD

For the month of February, all Userlyngs who Nitro Boost the Discord Server and submit the Server Boost Reward Claim will receive x1 Presto and x1 Abracadabra! The Road Ahead

Like usual, Magimy's Mythical Trait special (henceforth called Magimy's Miraculous Mythical Month) is now over, and so there are no Mythical Traits available to purchase until the next go-around. In other words, just as before, this isn't the last you've seen of her Mythical stock! However, instead of disappearing like last time, Magimy's decided to set up the other part of her shop: the Motley Menagerie! This MagiMart specializes in Distortion and pet-based Items. Pay her a visit sometime, even just for a chat! She'll be quite happy to have your company.

Speaking of Magimy, who belongs to (and secretly heads) the Order of the Origin... The Covenants are set to release with gear within the next two months! What exactly does this mean? Continue to travel the stars with us until then to find out!

Lastly, our Terms of Use have been amended slightly! Check them out sometime, if you please.

JANUARY NEWSLETTER

 Greetings, interstellar wanderers, and welcome to much-anticipated grand opening of the Starlyngs Lorekeeper! 

Happy New Year, Everylyng! As we transition into 2024, the species will begin its metamophorsis from a bloodcurdling Sheets caterpillar into a jawdropping Lorekeeper butterfly! In other words, many of our former processes and sites are now defunct and will be fully consolidated onto our Lorekeeper. Anyone would appreciate a bigger and better circus tent to perform in, right? As such, this newletter will primarily detail the forthcoming changes! 

SETTLING INTO LOREKEEPER

So! First thing's first: Userlyngs won't be able to walk the walk nor talk the talk without registering for the Lorekeeper. Registration is mandatory for all active Userlyngs. Userlyngs can sign up by (you guessed it) clicking on the "Register" button beside "Login" in the upper right corner of the site, or by simply clicking this lyngk. Please note that, while registering, there are currently no referral rewards; that section is optional. Filling the referral rewards may also cause issues while registering, so it is best to leave it alone for now.

Once sufficiently fooled into joining us, Userlyngs will then need to transfer their existing Stardust and Items over from their spreadsheet Inventory, which can be done with the Inventory Transfer Prompt here. Stafflyngs will afterward review and verify your transfer requests; you'll know it was approved when you receive a dashboard notification. 

Userlyngs will also need to attach their Toyhou.se accounts after registering in order to attain their preexisting Starlyngs. All preexisting Starlyngs were accredited on the Masterlist to users' Toyhou.se accounts. If Userlyngs encounter any issues doing any of this, they may contact Stafflyngs for help in #ask-the-staff or #lorekeeper-help! (Do keep in mind that the influx of traffic may result in temporary site outages and that you may encounter issues while registering because of it. Our captcha system also hates Firefox, so if faced with that problem, please try another browser!)

Starlyngs will no longer make use of nor maintain our Google Sheets, Google Forms (excepting certain events), Neocities, and several Discord channels associated with their obsoletion. (Our Toyhou.se World will also be reworked.) More specifically, the following are now but a memory:

Since the above channels have suffered a most dire fate, their functions are now to be done via Lorekeeper. The vast majority of any information you may need can be found in our Site Guide and the FAQ and it's highly encouraged to explore the site overall. Any further questions can be asked through the usual channels, #ask-the-staff or (more privately) #ticket-desk, as well as our new, Lorekeeper-specific help channel, #lorekeeper-help! Everything else that wasn't mentioned will remain as-is, although it is now possible to "double-up" on features like Trade Listings, which can be done on-site and advertised (linked back to) in #trade-listings for double the exposure! It's up to you, really. Aaaand the Server Boost Shop has been updated with this month's Trait Bundle: x2 Rare Traits and x4 Uncommon Traits (for 2024)!

ADDITIONAL LOREKEEPER FEATURES AND THE ROAD AHEAD

You're not going to believe this, but we've got some other things to share about the Lorekeeper! For one, it now boasts a whole host of new Starlyng lore, which can be explored through the Encyclopedia and World Expanded pages! Please read it. Please? Please, I wrote so much of it for you?

Second: site themes! Shock and awe! Check them out in your settings under the "Theme" section. After thoroughly admiring them (for they are beauty without parallel), be sure to thoroughly admire their creators as well!

Third: New Prompt bonuses! Misc. Prompts now have the option of a Featuredlyng or Weather bonus. Featuredlyngs and the Weather are displayed on the homepage of our Lorekeeper when logged in. Featuredlyngs are not eligible for other bonuses, but do apply a 1.5x bonus to the submission overall. The Weather bonus can be stacked alongside other bonuses and applies a 1.2x multiplier. For the record, the New Year's Festive Prompt (scroll to the bottom; it's under "Festive Bonus?") is still active as well!

January will mostly see us focusing on getting everyone onto the Lorekeeper, but in the future, we'll be focusing on features such as:

  • Foraging
  • Crafting
  • Faction quests, progression, and gear
  • Daily login bonuses
  • Official humanoid forms
  • Oort and Boötes pets
  • New Traits

We're hoping to have a re-launch event showcasing related Items when the time comes. Oh, and currently, a handful of Factions are available for joining (in your settings), although the extent of their functionality ends there. For now! They're, how you say, for aesthetic. For now! 

HELP WANTED AND GUEST ARTIST APPLICATIONS

If you think we've been sweating a little too much behind-the-scenes, then you're right! We stink! Hence, we've opened up applications for Starlyng Moderators and Lorekeeper Assistants. Since we are such pitiful, wet birdcats looking up at you with big, round, teary eyes, won't you help us? 

Please note these are volunteer positions, with some special permissions for the species as a bonus. You must be 18+ to apply. Role descriptions will be described further in the form itself.

Also, as three months have passed, we will once again be taking Guest Artist applications! To reiterate our FAQ summary about Guest Artists: "Guest Artists (GA) are permitted to make official adopts, customs, and designs for the species as desired with some limitations. Openings for Guest Artist applications occur every three months on our Discord, as that is how long our Guest Artists hold their position." We will choose Guest Artists for this rotation on 01/08/2024.

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE

As per usual, your Common Monthly MYOs and Seasonal Prompts have reset! You can read more about how they'll work on Lorekeeper under the MYOs, Redesigns, and Masterlist Updates section in the Site Guide. Going forward, Common Monthly MYOs will automatically reset every month, so we will likely no longer note it in our newsletters. They will also automatically restrict use once the monthly limit of two has been reached. You can make one, submit it, make the other, and then submit that. One at a time and two max! Got it memorized?

My oh my! You've made it to the end! Very impressive, unless you skimmed this or skipped to the end, in which case--for shamelyng! Either way, thanks so much for all that you are and all that you do. Our gratitude will never wane in the face of such an enthusiastic userbase! The Starlyng Night Sky is truly a spectacular one.

As a show of said gratitude, all new users can claim x1 Rare Trait from the Stardust Shop for free! This offer will likely expire in time, so make sure to pick it up while you can.
